Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent. It contains the geographic South Pole and is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean.

  • Young seaman Arthur Gordon Pym and sailor Dirk Peters are rescued by the ship Jane Guy, which, at Pym's request, bears south to the unexplored Antarctic regions. The ship opens up trade with natives of the continent, lead by the chief Too-Wit, before they betray them, leaving Pym and Peters the only survivors.[1]
1888 The Antarctic Continent
  • A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder, author James De Mille
  • In 1843, English sailor Adam More is abandoned by the Trevelyan in the Southern Ocean. He subsequently discovers a lost civilisation, the Kosekin, hidden in Antarctica.[2]
  • Sir James Clark Ross is mentioned.
1936 Antarctica
  • Miskatonic University professor of geology William Dyer leads a doomed expedition that uncovers an ancient, inhuman civilisation once existed on the southern continent.[3]
1938 Antarctica
  • Meteorologist McReady leads the men of Big Magnet through a process of divining who amongst their fellow scientists have been replaced by things from another world.[4]
1966 Antarctica
  • Doctor Who, "The Tenth Planet"
  • The First Doctor (William Hartnell) and his companions Ben (Michael Craze) and Polly (Anneke Wills) find the TARDIS has landed in Antarctica, 1986, at the Snowcap space tracking station. There, they uncover the arrival in the starry sky of the planet Mondas- and its inhabitants, the Cybermen.[5]

  • Doctor Who, "The Seeds of Doom"
  • The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) investigate the appearance of an apparent Krynoid on the continent.[6]
1999 Antarctica
  • NUMA operatives Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino uncover a plot by CEO Karl Wolf to initiate the Fourth Reich involving the lost continent of Atlantis.[7]
